Support our students travelling to Los Angeles for karate training, black belt assessment, and life experience. 1000 push ups being done!!!
Wellington
As head instructor of the Wellington Region Karate Academy, I travel to Los Angeles once a year to train under Soke Kubota, 10th Dan and head of the International Karate Association.
This year I am taking five students with me, including three teenagers - two of whom will be testing for Black Belt while there. This is the first time the group has travelled internationally. Currently the trip is self-funded, costing approximately $15,000.
To help raise funds, on 18 April 2015 these students are doing a 1000 PUSH UP CHALLENGE. On the same day as a five-hour karate class (separate event!), the team must each complete 1000 push ups that day, under close supervision. Some other students are also taking part!
The rules are:
- Proper push ups = 90 degree elbow angle
- Can be done in sets of any amount
- Not continuous - must finish by midnight
- All push ups are counted independently
We are seeking sponsorship for each, which can be per push up or 'all or nothing' - i.e. complete 1000 to get an amount donated; or 'absolutely all or nothing' - i.e. all six travellers must complete 1000 to get the total amount donated.
I am the head instructor and am travelling with the team, and therefore will benefit from shared accommodation and travel arrangements. However I will not use the funds for any of my personal expenses - it will be used first for the teenagers, then other travellers to minimise their costs.
