Hastings Volunteer Firefighters 1923 Dennis Fire Appliance Restoration Project
Hastings, Hawke's Bay
In 1923, the Hastings fire board, purchased their first motorised fire appliance. It saw many years of action and service, including the 1931 Hawkes Bay earthquake. It was finally retired, then sold from service in 1953. Since being retired, it was used by many others for a variety of services until it ended up in a local museum.
Sadly, the museum is being sold and the appliance is looking for a new home. The Hastings volunteer firefighters would like to buy the truck back and restore it to its former glory, where it will be displayed and used for local community events, ie, parades, art deco and help promote fire safety campaigns. This appliance is a part of the local community as well as the Hastings brigade and has great historical significance, so we would like to have the opportunity to hold onto it and restore it before it heads out of the Bay or even overseas to a collector
Funds raised will be used to buy the appliance outright and also help kick start the restoration process

Due to cyclone Gabrielle, and the proceeding months, our fundraising efforts to restore our Hastings station 1923 vintage fire appliance has taken a backseat. Now that Hawkes Bay slowly gets back on its feet, so is our fundraising efforts. We hope you will support is in our venture moving forward.
Wow that’s awesome family history Glenda. I have seen Joseph’s name at the station on our honours board. He would have had a few rides on this truck in its day. Thank you for your donation.
Thank you Barry. We are hoping that we can keep it in the bay too
Thank you for your donation Megan. It certainly is an amazing piece of history. Hard to believe that it was built 100 years ago….
