Planet Replants Children of GRG's and Community Garden Projects

  • Fruit Trees

      4 June 2017

I have been talking with Phillip Holden from the Matai Street Community Garden in Wanganui about my projects and Phillip has offered me a buy one get one free fruit tree from his stock of fruit trees that he grows. I'll be able to donate 4 fruit trees to worthy spaces or places once I get them :) Its really nice to see the new ground level change in how people are going about making what is Life as we know it a whole new way of living where people share and support each other more. Its less about the profit margin and more about good will and genuine caring about the planet and the people on it.

  • Where I am at currently....

Its been a while since I was here but Iv been super busy organising a Garage Sale Shed in Marton. Iv had to wait a year for the space to become available to me and the potential location on the site was changed a few times along the way which really held up my forward motion but Im at a point where the shed is almost ready to open now. Just have to load a few more shelves and make the room look chocka then I'll open the doors for 2 days a week. I have a 1 year lease on the building at really cheap rent as Iv put quite a bit of funding into the property over the last 12 months and the owner has given me the first 6 months rent free and how awesome is that!.

Check out the new pictures that Im going to add to the Gallery page on here. Im quietly excited about it. Initially I wanted Garage Sale space in a local town from which to sell my lifetimes worth of collected flotsam and jetsam so I could Feng Shui my place to a more minimalistic lifestyle but as I live in the countryside having a Garage Sale there would be a waste of time so I started looking for a space in town and no one had a shed or carport I could use, then I thought, if Im looking for a space to Garage sale from, Maybe other people were looking for somewhere in town so I came up with a plan to sell as much of my stuff as poss then rent the space out to others for their Garage Sales. So far Iv got 6 people lined up to have a garage sale and all the fees for hiring the space will go into local Planet Replants Community Garden and Molly's Trolley Garden in Marton which is a new project Im supporting Here's a link in to the face book page for Mollys Trolley so you can see where we are up to with that https://www.facebook.com/Mollys-Trolley-134384877047923/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel and of course my Grandchildren of GRG's funding pool.

Recently I was very lucky in that The Marton Rotary Club and several bidders who won 'Lots' at the recent Rotary Club Auction, donated the unsold items and items the general public didnt want from what they won, ( 2 trailer loads ) to my charity causes so what you can see in the photos of the Garage sale shed is a mixed collection of my own personal household effects and donated furniture from that auction along with a mix of my own and Hunters clothing, Toys and books and my friends and family's plus clothing and toys that have been donated through Planet Replants Clothing bin.

Over the last 12 months I fed 9 'Families' being made up of either older single people, Families and GRG's raising from my Planet Replant Garden and its currently growing seedlings from the vege plants I let seed down and Im donating these to Mollys Trolley Garden and to Mollys Trolley that sits at the gate on Skerman Street in Marton for people to help themselves to. Please check out our facebook page if you would like to have a read of that :)

I'll update this post as I remember other things I wanted to add to this blurb :) Thankyou for reading my page if you have got this far :) :) :)

The Garden has been growing well and Iv been feeding a few families over the last few months. Most of the fundraising comes from my Trade Me page as very little happens on here in that respect.

Last month we got 6 scoops of Organic vege mix at a special rate from Mitre 10 Marton and I thank them for their generosity again, and Iv planted lots more Silver-beet, Green and Butter Dwarf Beans and some Dwarf Peas for the kids.

We have been given a community worker recently and he's giving us a hand to build garden boxes and get new garden areas ready for planting.

Molly from Marton who donated a Mollys Trolley to Project Marton has given me a Trolley for our Garden as well so once Iv got that painted up you will see that on the street with veges etc I'll ask a Koha for the produce on this trolley and all funds raised will naturally go back into the project.

  • First lot of Veges picked and shared

That is always a great moment in any garden when you can pick the first lot of whats ready and share it around. The Silverbeet, lettuce, parsley and spring onions are ready to take the odd leaf off now so Iv given one GRG and her Grandies some and some to Dave who has given me the land to grow the garden on and some ofr us of course. As with any project that requires human input, the story runs a little like the story of Henny Penny. Who will help me plant this seed said Henny Penny? Not I said the..... but thats ok with me because I dont mind just sharing whats growing with people who cross my path.

I overheard the ladies at the Marton Koha Shed saying they are starting up a soup kitchen soon so guess where some of the surplus will be going when the garden is really pumping.

Im about to pull all the lettuce out and plant something else in the space. Its been too wet and they are not holding up well with the deluge.

Im happy just to break the bread and fish and carry on :)

  • Spouting purchased for collecting water for the Garden

      25 March 2016

This cost $485 dollars and has been delivered to the garden yesterday. I have funded this from the specified donations for the garden projects on this Givealittle fundraiser and topped up the extra from funds Iv raised on Trade Me under member name planet_replant.

Next I'll be buying the organic vege mix soil from Mitre 10 in Marton. They have generously given us a 10% discount on the Organic soil they get in from Paranui Organics and offered a courtesy truck to deliver the soil to the garden.

Once that is in the garden I'll be off to Awapuni Nurseries just out of Palmerston North in Longburn to buy up a whole gardens worth of winter vege seedlings.

By this time next month I'll have photos of the gardens fully planted with winter veges.

    High Five us :)

  • New Garden site in Marton to support!

      12 March 2016

I have approached a friend in Marton who has agreed to allow us to build up and maintain a new Garden area at his place, he owns an old fabric making factory and has a huge area of land available to plant and use.

This garden wont be bound by rules. Pretty much if you want to eat the vege's you gotta water and weed it.

The whole property is security fenced and the gardens that are there are also fenced inside that. There are 3 beds in various stages of use that can quickly be turned into 2 usable gardens and one massive compost making bed that will become a garden as we build it up. It has a great base of small branches and other green waste already and just needs more layers of leaves and grass clippings, manure and pea straw added and some time to rest as the worms do their thing and turn it all into soil.

He has a potting shed on site and a small shed that can be converted into a Hot house that sits right between 2 of the existing garden beds. We'll take the existing walls off and put clearlite or the like on the frame, and Im sourcing a truck load of top soil, organic if I can otherwise I'll get screened and ready to use soil from Mitre 10 or someone local business so we support our local community as much as possible.

Planet Replant will be funding the set up of the watering system which will be rain water collected from the roof of the shed next to the area, just needs spouting and down pipe from the shed to the massive water tanks that already sit beside the garden.

  • Progress update

      2 March 2016
    Main image

So far with the $315 raised here I have an accumulated total of over $1000 spread across my current project accounts.

My support for the Marton Community Garden has reached its peak for the time being but I'll keep an eye on what they are doing there in the future.

Its a new garden and they are still building the bones and structure there so I have no new pictures to add showing progress there.

I'll head across to the Whanganui and Fielding Gardens next to see if there is something I can contribute there next and Im always open to suggestions and ideas from YOU.

Thank you so much to the people who have contributed here so far.

My clothing bin and Trade Me sales from the donated goods have picked up since xmas so this coming year will enable me to help our local children of GRG's a little more actively.

Remember when you make a donation please specify in the comments which project area you would like me to use your contribution.

Im currently going through everything I own and donating to this cause with my own belongings so there will be a range of things up for sale all the time.

    Thank you for checking in.

  • Planet Replant donates to the Marton Community Garden Project

      16 January 2016

    Yesterday 15 Jan 2016

I went though Planet Replants stock of pots and planter bags, root trainers, seed trays and garden stakes and took a small ute load down to the garden.

They wont need to buy planter bags for years :)

having these items at the garden means I will now be able to take cuttings off my numerous food bearing plants and pot them up in advance of the new garden beds so they will be ready to plant out once the plots have been built up and are ready to plant. It also means that when Project Marton holds its yearly Marton Market Day the MCG members will be able to sell seedlings from the root trainers to raise funds for the garden's future needs. All stock donated yesterday was either bought by or donated to Planet Replant so its good for me to be able to give these things to a local project where they will be put to good use. I'll add a pic of it all next week when I take another load of materials down.

Update on this project. Unfortunately I had to withdraw my support to this Garden Project as it became obvious that its more a 'Committee' Garden and the general public cant go in and plant anything they like so this project doesn't fit my criteria for donations or support. Molly from Mollys trolley stuck it out supporting them with her time for 12 months after I withdrew before also splintering off to start Mollys Trolley Garden which is more in line with my visions of what a proper Community Garden is.

  • Where we are at so far

      11 January 2016

So far we are patiently waiting for the first transfer of the first donations (December 2015) from Givealittle to our nominated bank account.

But whilst we wait for that, my other fundraising projects have provided the funds for gifts for 7 Grandchildren and 2 Grandmothers this Xmas just gone (2015) and fundraising for the Community Garden via sales on Trade me continue to trickle in.

Please see Trade Me member name planet_replant, you can track my sales by checking the feedbacks and clicking on the auction number if you wish to see the things that I have sold there, which are either cuttings from the Mother bushes Planet Replant planted here or plants I have grown from cuttings or clothing and toys that are donated into the clothing bin at my gate or donated directly to me by friends of mine who support the work I do for these causes.

I also donate my own belongings to my causes.

ALL donations for December 2015 were made by friends of mine, some I have known for over 20 years and all of whom fully back my efforts and understand that now that Im raising a Grandchild on the Spectrum and I cant have the life I planned, that I need to be doing something altruistic to give my life bigger purpose and meaning.

Planet Replant, for example, has never been about making me a living, it has always been about Replanting YOUR Planet. I have never taken a wage from this.

Today I had an email from Givealittle and a follow up phone call because someone reported my page and from what I can gather it was because they were confused by where their donation would be allocated, and the Givealittle team member I spoke with indicated perhaps I hadn't been clear enough in the body of the details section because Im running 3 fundraisers under one page.

I state specifically if you want to donate to any of my causes specifically that you make a comment in the area for doing so when you make your donation and tell me which project you would like your donation allocated to but as a back up, in the auto email you will get once you have made a donation I state again that if you haven't clarified which project you want your donation made to I will assume, unless you email me, that it was made to all the projects and I'll split the donation 3 ways as equally as I can.

These projects are all Pay it forward based and none of the proceeds will be used by me for myself. That's not who I am nor is it how I work this.
