Raising $2,500 in 10 weeks to plant 500 native trees in Canterbury in a single 24-hour community planting event — $5 sponsors one tree.
Canterbury
Over the next 10 weeks, I’m raising $2,500 to plant 500 native trees in Canterbury.
At the end of that period, I’ll attempt to plant them all in a single 24-hour community planting challenge.
I work in the environmental space and spend a lot of time thinking about biodiversity decline. This project is about stepping beyond discussion and committing to visible, practical action.
If 500 people sponsor just one tree each, we create real habitat and real restoration.
$5 sponsors one native tree.
The planting site is currently being confirmed with a local Canterbury conservation partner. All funds raised will go directly toward getting trees in the ground.
Funds will go directly toward:
- Eco-sourced native seedlings (500)
- Site preparation and basic planting materials (including stakes, guards, and ground prep if/where required)
- Site preparation and logistics (including basic tools, minimal safety equipment)
If we exceed the $2,500 target, we’ll plant more trees.
We did it — 500 trees 🌿 23 March 2026
We’ve officially hit the goal — 500 native trees!
Honestly, I didn’t expect things to take off like this. The support has been incredible — from donations to messages to people offering their time and advice. It’s made a huge difference.
A massive thank you to everyone who has backed this challenge so far. This has well and truly become a team effort.
With the goal reached, I’m going to keep the page open a little longer. Any additional funds will go directly towards plant guards and extra trees — helping give these plants the best possible chance to survive and thrive.
If you’ve already donated — thank you. If you’ve been following along — appreciate you. And if you’re still keen to get involved, there’s still time.
Next step: getting all 500 (and maybe a few more) in the ground 👊🌱
