Helping to support Navachitta's daughter Genevieve in London

Nationwide

My darling sister and best friend, Navachitta, passed away on Saturday evening in London. She had her most beloved daughter by her side, and her good friend Dhammadinna was there as well, to help her through the transition from life to no longer being in her body. I was able to be in the room by phone and so although unable to hold her or kiss her, I was able to be part of the medical decision making process which I hope alleviated some of the intense pressure of the situation.

Navachitta had ARDS which is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. This in turn affected her heart, kidneys as well as her poor lungs. She was unable to fully oxygenate her blood and although the medical team at Royal London Hospital worked very hard to help her with this epic battle, the lack of oxygen to other vital organs resulted in sepsis in her abdomen. She was a true fighter and I know she battled long and hard to beat the entire array of terrible medical problems that were stacked against her. She would have done this for Genevieve, and for her grandson Finn as she loved them unreservedly. And she had a lot of work yet to do - she adored the people she was working with as part of the Buddhist Recovery Network, and she loved her fellow friends within the Buddhist Community. She did not give up without a fight, but finally there was simply nothing left that could be done for her. Her blood pressure kept dropping and the consultants said they could keep pumping in the maximum level of drugs which would ultimately be of no avail, or they could take away the paraphernalia and let her pass away in a more peaceful space. We decided this was the best thing, and what Navachitta would have wanted.

Genevieve is still in London and will be joined by her cousin, Jonny, on Tuesday morning. We are bringing Navachitta home to Auckland and will advise as soon as possible, the arrangements for her funeral service.

Update for 25/11/2014  25 November 2014

Many many thanks for the help and love and metta that has been pouring in, Navachitta will be blown away by this when she wakes up. My sister, Jill, and I appreciate this beyond words. Navachitta continues to be critical and in ICU, but Genevieve is by her side as often as she can be in a room full of machines and dedicated wonderful ICU staff. The sedation is being reduced and we hope and pray she will wake up soon, it has been a week now. The consultant doctors and nursed are cautiously optimistic but insist that she is not ""out of the woods"" yet BUT with all our combined positive energy & love beaming her way, I feel sure that she will prevail.

Dearest Maitreyi, I'm so sorry it's taken so long to thank you for your very generous donation. To be honest, I got halfway through the thank you process and then darling Navachitta died, and I lost heart. But I now feel I can continue with this process as 5 months later, the reality has set in, she's not coming back. Your donation helped us to see Navachitta off in a beautiful way. She had nothing put aside to cover this eventuality, therefore I know that she had no plan to leave us this soon. She did, however, have a brochure for a funeral plan, ironically from the Natural Funeral Company which is the one we chose, before I found the brochure! And she had an Auckland Buddhist Centre booklet on "Making a Will". Maitreyi, I have found so many cards and letters and photos from, and of you. I know she adored you if that is any consolation. Much metta and many thanks Roi, Genevieve & Jill

I'm a good friend of Navachitta's and am still in shock over her sad death. I wanted to contribute something towards Genevieve's expenses and/or funeral costs. I will be thinking of you all when Navachitta arrives home and then the celebration of her life. Sending my warmest wishes to all her family and friends.
