Fund to fight fast track for Devonport
Auckland
Devonport is a special place. Nestled between maunga and moana, we’re a unique mix of nature and history, a thriving heritage suburb with a strong community spirit.
Devonport is always changing and with the right development it can have an exciting future.
Peninsula Capital's proposed development would transform the heart of Devonport village. The proposal includes 80–90 apartments, a hotel and five new buildings ranging from four to eight storeys.
Our concern is the scale of the proposed new buildings, particularly those reaching eight storeys - doubling Auckland Council’s own height limits for development. We believe that these towers will
- ruin Devonport’s unique low-scale heritage identity
- screen the views and break the connection between the village and our iconic maunga, Takarunga.
The development has now been referred to the Government’s Fast-track approvals process, cutting out all local voices.
After looking into all options, and listening to the groundswell of opposition from Devonport and beyond, Devonport Heritage has applied to the High Court for a Judicial Review of the minister’s referral decision.
This is a big undertaking and one we did not take lightly. The cost will be around $70,000.
Please help us fund this legal battle. Every dollar raised will go to this fighting fund.
Devonport has a strong sense of self-belief and a long history of campaigning for what it believes is right. We think locals should have a voice, and we think 4 not 8.
