Gary asks
Why would you leave your dream job to access your super? Shouldn't you have kept working and hired a lawyer? How can you access your super by simply becoming unemployed? Your story does not portray your age as being of retirement age.

Hi Gary,
I did work hard, I always have. I also did have a lawyer, that alone cost me 10k. My old work superannuation was not kiwisaver (this wasn't around), it was a company one. When you left the scheme you got it paid out to you. When you separate from someone and they take your super, it doesn't matter if you can access it or not, you still have to pay.
Does this answer your question?
Kind regards
James
