A Nana’s Fight for more time.

In February 2019, Mum had an awful pain and some bruising in her right leg. After many tests and a stint in Hospital it was confirmed that Mum has Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer - Unfortunately it had also spread to her Femur. A huge shock to all of us and a very scary time.

Treatment commenced immediately, starting with aggressive Radiation and a lot of medication. Mum's Femur is at risk of snapping so she has been using Crutches to get around and taking medication to strengthen her bones.

Mum has remained extremely positive throughout this journey and has been feeling really well lately. Blood Tests over the last 6 months have showed all positive signs. The Radiation was doing it's job and the medication Mum was taking was keeping everything under control.

However, on 03 September 2019 it was confirmed that Mum's Cancer Markers have increased after routine Blood Tests. This means the Cancer is growing and a different course of treatment is required to fight this.

Mum's Oncologist has advised it's now time to change treatment. We have been introduced to Ibrance (Palbociclib) which is a Medication proven to have amazing results on Patients with the same symptoms that Mum has. This medication is not currently funded by Pharmac in New Zealand. The cost to fund this is $6000 per month. We need to fund 11 months of treatment before it then becomes 'free of charge'. The cost to fund 11 months of Ibrance is $66,000.

Our Family would be very grateful for any donation to help us fund this treatment. Our children (aged 9, 7 and 5) adore their Nana and are unaware at the moment of the battle their Nana is facing. We want our Mum to be around as long as possible. Being able to get access to this very important Medication means we will still have more years ahead of us to create lasting memories.
