Chase is a 3 year old who needs a heart transplant to survive.
Waikato
Chase is a chubby cheeked ,vibrant 3 year old boy who was born with Barth Syndrome, a rare genetic condition, that has caused his heart to fail. His parents were told at the beginning of the year that he will need a heart transplant to survive. The specialist medical team put through an application, on the family's behalf, to the Ministry of Health for funding to get them to Melbourne, Australia, where Chase would be placed on an indefinite wait-list, as peadiatric transplants aren't available in New Zealand. After an 8 month wait, they received devastating news. The application was declined with no real explanation why. Now waiting on an appeal of this decision, the family is in a desperate place of uncertainty while Chase remains in need of a new heart, a cost that may be upwards of half a million dollars.

Funds will go towards the life-saving surgery and all associated costs. If in the event the transplant is declined, the money raised will go towards Chases bucket list and making him as comfortable as possible with the time he has left.
Update!! 26 July 2024
Firstly I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported us through this , each person who donated here or helped us with a meal or a handwritten card or kind words, you truely got us through our hardest days and kept food on the table for the kids though this.
We are home!! After 9 months at Starship we have been home a couple of months!
It’s been harder than I imagined settling back into the real world , it’s absolutely bliss living in our house again but post transplant life is still busy with lots of trips back and forward to Starship and to our local hospital to keep on top of things.
Chase has been doing school part time 1-2 hours a day to help build up his strength slowly. This has been really challenging for him but I know we will make progress.
There are still lots of medications, injections, tests, physio and therapy but this is all part of recovery ❤️🩹
Often this feels hard but when I look at where we were a year ago the progress is just phenomenal!
This is where the real recovery starts!
Please feel free to follow Chases Facebook page for more frequent updates.
Again. Our kindest thank you 🙏
