A Safe and Joyful Playground for Niue’s Children
Auckland
Every child deserves a place to play, explore, and feel safe especially those who are neurodiverse or have sensory needs. In Niue, there isn’t a playground designed for all children, and many families miss out on this vital space for growth and joy.
I’m Shannen, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist and builder living here. I want to gift the community a sensory-friendly playground that welcomes every child.
Labour and shipping are covered, but we need help with materials to make this dream real.
We’d appreciate:
• Sponsorship of a 3D design and materials list to guide procurement
• Material donations like timber, safe surfacing, musical play elements, slides, or turf
• Monetary donations to cover estimated material costs
• Donations of bright, exterior-grade paint (8–10L across 4–6 colours) for sensory-supportive finishes
Project: 6m x 8m (48m²) sensory playground built by Boutique.Build NZ Ltd volunteers, installed over grass.
Features: Sensory retreat cubby, musical wall, calm path, balance beam, low slide, sit & dig bark pit, turf and mulch ground cover, timber edging, and bright painted elements.
Your support will create an inclusive, calming play space that promotes creativity, regulation, and joy for all Niue children.
I am building here in Nuie for an extended period of time and I would like to give something back to the community that will benefit the whole country.
All funds raised will go towards materials to bring this project to life.
Playground update 29 August 2025
Kia ora koutou,
We want to update you on recent changes affecting our work.
The build project we were contracted to deliver has unfortunately fallen through due to changes in the payment schedule made by the client mid-way. As a result, their project could not continue.
Separately, the same client has withdrawn their offer to donate land for the planned inclusive playground. We respect their decision and will not be naming them publicly.
We are aware of online comments making false or harmful claims. While we will not engage in public disputes, any defamatory or harassing content will be recorded and addressed in line with New Zealand laws.
We’ve notified Givealittle and are currently reviewing our next steps. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our kaupapa.
