A Safe Place to Heal: Help us make our Refuge Safehouse feel like Home

$430 of $25,000 goal
Given by 11 generous donors in 4 weeks

We are aiming to raise funds to transform our safehouses into warm, welcoming homes for women and children impacted by family violence.

Auckland

In 2023, Women's Refuge Tāmaki Makaurau was established in central Auckland with the support of the National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges, building on a proud 50-year legacy of supporting wāhine and tamariki impacted by family violence. Our mission is to provide immediate safety for wāhine and tamariki escaping family violence, and to educate and advocate for societal change to improve the lives of those impacted by family violence.

We support hundreds of wāhine and tamariki each year through our 24/7 free crisisline, advocacy support, safety planning, food, transport, clothing and basic necessities, referrals, whānau protect (house alarms and security) and emergency, confidential accommodation. Our safehouses provide immediate safety for those at highest risk.

While our homes meet basic needs, they remain sterile and impersonal. For those who have experienced trauma, safety is only the beginning. Healing happens in spaces that feel warm, comforting, and truly like home. We want to transform our safehouses into welcoming, home-like environments with spaces where children can rest, play and feel at ease, and where women can begin to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. Simple things like soft furnishing, plants, artwork, a veggie garden, outdoor furniture and personal touches can make a profound difference.

Your support will help turn our safehouses into places of comfort and care where safety is matched with warmth, and where healing can begin.

About us

We provide immediate safety, advocacy, and support for wāhine and tamariki escaping family violence, while working toward lasting societal change. Our services support communities across all of central Auckland and parts of East, West, and South Auckland.

Use of funds

Funds will go toward artwork and home decor created by local artists, indoor/outdoor plants, rugs and soft furnishings, storage solutions, playroom items, outdoor furniture, and garden supplies to create a veggie garden.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
