Special Olympics World Summer Games Abu Dhabi March 2019. Help our athletes bring home the GOLD!!!
Auckland
Brett, Tom David and Tamara are travelling to Abu Dhabi in March 2019 as members of the Special Olympics New Zealand Team to compete at the Special Olympics World Summer Games. This event will be attended by over 7000 athletes from around the world.
The amount needed to get them to Abu Dhabi is $43750.00 and the athletes, families and supporters are working hard to raise the funds required, but it would be great if you could help a little towards this goal.
Our athletes have worked and trained hard over the past 4 years and have competed around New Zealand in both regional and National events.
Special Olympics Auckland was started in 1986 and offers regular sports training and competition for people with an intellectual disability. We are part of an international movement started in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, As the title of a recent books points out she was "The Kennedy who changed the World."
For some athletes the experience of participating in sport can be a life changing, boosting self confidence and helping to promote a "Can Do" attitude. For many it provides the social interaction we all need to thrive and grow.
PLEASE help get Brett, Tom, David and Tamara to the World Games by donating and give them the opportunity to represent their country and maybe even bring home a Gold Medal or two.
Special Olympics provide sports training and competition and social activities for people with intellectual disabilities.Participation in competition can lead to selection for National and International events.
Any funds raised will be used towards the costs of travel for our 4 athletes to the World Games. Any surplus funds will be used to provide continuing training for all our athletes.
