I want disabled people to feel supported and empowered to access the services and opportunities available to them without barriers.
Nationwide
Hi,
I'm Ilina, a Year 10 student at Queen Margaret College. As part of my curriculum this year, I am undertaking a Kaupapa Hapori (Community Project), where I am working to make a positive and lasting difference in my community.
For my project, I am creating a resource booklet to support wheelchair users and people with limited mobility in navigating their everyday lives. My goal is to create something meaningful that is a long-lasting resource for people with mobility-related disabilities. The booklet brings useful information, resources, and practical guidance together in one accessible place.
I'm raising funds to pay for publishing costs for this resource booklet. Once published, I’ll be distributing it to Wellington hospital, local medical centres, libraries and disability support organisations.
This project is particularly close to my heart because at age 9 I was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. Through my own experiences, I understand that living with a mobility-related condition can come with challenges that others may not always recognise. I've been privileged in being able to access services and support that have made my life easier - now I want to use this project to improve awareness of accessibility needs and make it easier for people with mobility challenges to find the information and resources they need.
Every dollar counts so if you could donate even just a little bit, it would mean a lot to me!
I am Ilina's mother and helping her raise funds for her community project.
