AEDs increase the survival rates of heart attack victims by 40%. We need an AED at Coyle Park as people have had heart attacks.
Auckland
We live next to a park in Pt Chev. On Monday night there was another person who had a heart attack here, Since we have lived there, there have been around 5 that we have been aware of. The park and beach are used by thousands and thousands of people each year so the chances of an incident are pretty high. The ambulance and fire service both take around 15 mins to get here.
In the event of a heart attack, AEDs increase survival rates by 40%.
The nearest AED available at the time of the attack was at the school a long way away when literally every minute counts.
We need one up at Coyle Park/Pt Chev beach available 24/7. There are also other places which would benefit from AEDs such as Eric Armishaw park.
We are prepared to put an AED on our shed on the edge of the park - available always - or wherever is recommended by emergency staff - we will take advice. We just want people to have access to AEDs as they literally save lives.
The cost of each AED is around $2800. We would like to prioritise one at Pt Chev beach/Coyle Park. If there is extra money lets look at raising one for Eric Armishaw park. We would also like to have a community picnic (where people bring their lunch or dinner) at Pt Chev park where we can all learn how to find AEDs (there is an app) and how to use them.
We want to improve the survival chances of people having a heart attack
The money will go towards AEDs and if any small amounts left over, to sausages for a community event showing us how to find AEDs in the community (there is a app) and how to use AEDs.
