Time is the one thing we can't give Mum. But we can help make the most of the time she has left.

Our mum, Rachael Feather, is 71 years old, a grandmother, Jungian analyst, and one of the most compassionate people you could hope to meet.

For decades, Mum dedicated her life to helping others through grief, trauma and life's hardest moments.

In September 2025, Mum was diagnosed with glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer. She has undergone brain surgery and radiotherapy, and continues chemotherapy until August in the hope of giving her as much quality time as possible.

When Mum received her diagnosis, we built a tiny home on my sister's property so she could spend her remaining time surrounded by family. The plan was to then sell her beloved Titirangi home, Mum's only financial asset, to give Mum financial security.

Then everything changed.

Although Mum's home is safe to live in, an unresolved landslip on neighbouring council land has meant buyers cannot obtain finance.

Mum's life savings are now locked inside a home she cannot sell, while mortgage repayments continue. The stress of carrying costs she expected to clear through the sale is weighing heavily on her.

Auckland Council has acknowledged Mum's situation and offered to waive application fees if we proceed with remediation ourselves, and advocate to Government for support. We are grateful, but resolving this will take time.

After a lifetime spent helping others through their hardest moments, we're hoping to give Mum the same kindness in hers in the time she has left.
