As New Zealand continues with its covid lockdown, and Auckland remains another week in level 4. I thought I would give you an update re Andrews situation.

Since our last update Andrews been on a roller coaster ride. Previous tests have shown reductions in size of the original areas infected including pancreas as a result of the immunotheapy treatment. But had also found 3 lesions in the bowel deemed inoperable.

In addition Andrews been a frequent vistor to hospital for blood transfusions and recently underwent bowel surgery. Although still really sore and recovering at home, he's making steady progress. ( Surgeons also managed to remove 1 of the 3 lesions)

This week sees Andrew complete his 9th round of treatment of Nevolumab. Next month he will have a CT scan which will give a better idea of the road ahead.

Whilst our time on Givealittle nears the end, Thank you to all involved. It's certainly helped in times of uncertainty, and shown Andrew how much he is supported and loved.

Late May Russell Freeman & myself got to catch up with Andy for a week to check on how he's going.

Andrew had ceased doing chemo therapy & commenced immunotherapy. Rather than aimed at targeting the cancer directly - this works on enhancing the bodies immune system enhancing its ability to fight of collectively.

On the possitive side the immunotherapy treatments have been shown to be decreasing the existing cancer in size, On the negative side the cancer in the interim has spread to the pancreas & hip. Whilst Andrew remains possitive the next few months will reveal the true impact.

So please spread the word & if your in a possition to support this page please do. Thank you Brett

With their initial roots extending from being volunteer Fireman @ Titirangi Fire Brigade a recent reunion was held in Taupo, with friends traveling from as far as Kerikeri to Wellington.

Collectively ther is over 150 + years service in the fire service & 14 years in St John.

With one of the team unable to attend due to travel restrictions plus facing the unkown re cancer alone. It was suggested by Brett Arnold we all shave our heads in Solidarity. " Mates supporting Mates". Without hessitation everyone was onboard 100%.

Andrew was able to live stream & Michelle Freeman kindly donated her hairdressing skills.

A great weekend was had by all reminiscing & more importantly Andrew knows he's not alone as we are all with him for the whole journey!

  • Update from Andy and change of payee

      7 April 2021

Hi all and everybody who has looked at or contributed to this page. I am well and truly blown away by the support Brett & Cheryl have managed to muster up. This is all very much appreciated especially at a time where I have not been able to work due to overwhelming health issues related to my treatments. I feel so isolated but knowing my awesome friends have my back I am definitely lost for words & Thank everyone of you from all of my heart. Andy (lokky)

I have just completed my second round of immunotherapy and I'm hoping to not get too many side effects this time. Although still having weekly hospital sessions, have lost way too much weight & are endeavouring to get my appetite back.

I have 2 more treatments to receive over the next couple of months, then a whole lot more reviewing to see if the treatments are helping in any way. (Fingers crossed.)

Given the side effects of the treatment, Andy has asked us to receive the funds on his behalf and we will then forward the funds to him.

Firstly Thank You to everyone who has donated, almost $8,000.00 within the first week. Let's show Andrew how much love and support is out there for him .

After having radiation earlier, Andrew has started his first round of immunotherapy this week. He is overwhelmed with the support shown, although lethargic, nauseous and suffering a sore throat.(some of the known side effects of radiation)

Today (Sunday) is his birthday, so feel free to send him a birthday message.
