    A final thankyou everyone. Again, we are blown away. And this little piece of technology is Amazing. We have absolutely no regrets doing this - the complete opposite in fact. We are two weeks in, and did the first implant changeover without incident. Akira thanks you, his supporters out loud every day, as he leaps out of bed and runs in to tell me his reading. Which is the complete opposite to him cowering under the covers resisting the finger prick palava. And I found some Captain America shield stickers to bling it too, which earned me heaps of Mummy points (didn't last long). Again, all I can say is thanks xx

    Wanted to let you know the Freestyle Libre has arrived and Akira will start using it tomorrow!

    Once again thankyou - I know I haven't yet had a chance to thank you all individually, but your support is overwhelming and so appreciated.

    At the moment I am going into Akira's school morning tea and lunchtime for glucose checks/insulin. Yesterday his mid morning read was 1.4 which is getting into pass out territory. Basically you always want to be between 4-8, and his previous lowest low was 3.6 (anything under 4 is considered a low that needs to be treated). It gave me such a fright, and really shows how much can happen in his wee body between the three hourly fingerprick tests.

    This of course will never happen again - thanks to you - because he can check himself as often as he wants with the Freestyle, and will know when lows are heading his way and respond accordingly. Amazing. And reassuring.

    We are only one of a handful of families in Dunedin to be jumping into this, and pretty much the most recently diagnosed in the country to go for it. But that's not to say it's the wrong way to go, all of the Diabetes Medical team say if it was their child, they'd be doing the same. Which shows yep we are doing the right thing, and I feel so lucky to be able to do it.

    Thank you friends, for your touching generosity. In just two days this has become a reality because of you. So today I told Akira what we have been up to, and he is pretty darn excited..."I'm going to be a cyborg!". Xx
