Kaikoura has been hit by a huge 7.8 earthquake. The Albatross Backpackers is still standing but needs your help to stay alive.

Since the earthquake, we have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of our community, previous guests and current and former staff. Many of you have been in touch, offering your time or money and asking for ways you can help The Albatross. We are incredibly touched by your words and kindness and would like to reach out to you now.

The first thing you can do is please, tell all your friends to still COME TO KAIKOURA!!! The whales and dolphins are still here, Ben's still BBQ-ing, Katie's still cup-caking and this stunning wee town will need some love once it's rebuilt and roads have re-opened.

In the meantime, if The Albatross has a chance of surviving until Kaikoura is once again open to travellers, we need your help! Any amount you're able to donate will be very gratefully received and put to use immediately to help cover the basics like power, phone, rent and water.

Our little home is hurting right now and we are devastated by what's occurred. But we will fight to keep the heart and soul of The Albatross alive until we can once again open our doors and invite you all back in.

I had a great time here. Ben was a great host and so friendly. Louie was also very friendly! One of my favourite hostels I've stayed at. I wanted to stay longer!
