I've set this page up to help out a friend of mine, Alex who is going through an unbelievably hard time at the moment
Northland
Alex had a very surprise miracle pregnancy earlier this year which was amazing but she has had a really rough time and has now ended up in the intensive care unit. Alex is currently 29 weeks pregnant. Since early on in the pregnancy she has suffered from severe hyperemesis (pregnancy sickness) and required regular admissions to hospital for rehydration. Her veins aren't the best so they decided a few weeks ago to put in a picc line (more permanent longer term line) and she has an open admission to the ward where she'd go every few days. Last weekend she started getting the cold shakes but didn't realise she was getting sick and when she went to hospital the next day they realised she had a severe infection and was very unwell so she had to stay in hospital and have intravenous antibiotics. They found the infection had come from the picc line so that was removed. She was all set to go home on Thursday on antibiotics when she developed pain in her right chest and right arm and noticed her fingernails were blue. A scan confirmed she had a DVT (Clot) in her arm and a pulmonary embolism (clot in her lung). So no going home and more treatment in hospital. Just when things couldn't get much worse on Monday she developed extreme upper abdo pain (not related to the baby who has been a tough little girl inside her mummy) and they found out she has developed pancreatitis and this is what has landed Alex into the intensive care in Whangarei Hospital for really close monitoring.
I created this page as I'm a friend of Alex's (we worked together in the emergency department) and she was a great help and support to me when I was undergoing IVF. A lot of Alex's friends have all wanted to help but no one knows what to do so we thought setting up this page might just help the family through a really rough time and allow Scott to be at her bedside as much as possible.
