Gender affirming top surgery fundraising Māori minorities
Wellington
Kia ora whānau,
I’m fundraising to support my journey toward top surgery — as an act of self-love, alignment, and care.
For a long time, there has been a disconnect between how my wairua knows me to be and how my tinana exists in the world. That disconnect shows up as dysphoria — a constant tension that limits how fully I can move, express myself, and simply be.
This surgery is about removing that barrier.
It’s about allowing my body to reflect the version of myself I already carry inside — my grounded self, my dream self, my true self.
🌱 Why this matters
Our tinana is how we move through the world — how we show up in our work, our creativity, our relationships, and our communities.
When tinana and wairua are misaligned, existing takes effort.
When they are aligned, that energy becomes freedom.
Top surgery will allow me to move with ease, inhabit my body confidently, and express myself without daily dysphoria shaping my choices. This isn’t about becoming someone new — it’s about returning to myself.
🫶 Why I’m asking for support
Accessing this surgery with quality care is costly and often not publicly funded in Aotearoa, and if the waitlist can take years.
Hence why I've decided to go private.
Private cost for gender affirming surgery is
$30,450
This amount covers:
-Surgeon's Fee: Dr. Rita Yang's professional fee for the surgical procedure.
-Hospital Fees
-Anaesthetist Costs
-Post-operative Follow-up
