A amazing family come forward to privately foster
Dunedin, Otago
Hi Guys I'm Angie Campbell.
Thank you for taking the time to read this story. I will warn you it is sad but also heartwarming.
Back in 2016 a childhood friend of mine Melissa Coakes (Mel) was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought a courageous battle but unfortunately her battle ended in 2018 at the age of 36.
She left behind her partner John and her 2 beautiful children Sophie (7) and Mason (5)
John was diagnosed with terminal cancer in July 2022.
Last year through all the chaos of John's diagnosis and prognosis came what I call superheroes. We all know superheroes don't always wear capes, they are ordinary people in our community just like the Atkinson family Mel, Rob and Mitch.
This amazing family has opened their hearts and their home to John, Sophie and Mason.
Thankfully the Atkinson family came forward In a time of crisis and offered to privately foster Sophie and Mason which was an offer that John couldn't refuse and what a blessing.
John knows there are no limits to the love, care and support they will provide.
But now it's time to prepare for the short term.
We are on a mission to build a sleepout at the Atkinson residence to ensure all the children have their own space.
Some funds have been saved for the project but we need a wee top up.
All funds from this page will go towards not only building a better future for Sophie and Mason but to the Atkinson family for the sleep out project.
Thank you so much
I am a guardian for the kids and Mel is foster parent for the kids
All funds will go towards the sleepout project
