In February 2016 Amelia was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Cancer. Help support Amelia and her family, to kick cancer to the curb!
Manawatu / Whanganui
On Thursday the 18th February Amelia was flown by Air Ambulance to Starship Hospital in Auckland. There Amelia was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Cancer, and from that day onwards everything changed.
Amelia is a happy, much loved and well liked young girl, sporty like her Mum and Dad. Normally at this time she would be with her brother Travis and friends, at Brunswick School in Wanganui. Amelia has now been living between Starship Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.
Amelia has already completed 3 rounds of Chemotherapy, with more to follow. There is a long road ahead to beat this, very likely including multiple surgeries, radiation therapy and ongoing tests.
Amelia’s parents were initially hesitant about establishing a Givealittle page, being more used to helping others. However, they have agreed to provide this avenue for others to show their support for Amelia during this time of need, and are tremendously grateful for all the support shown.
All funds raised will go directly to the family, and will help to maintain a safe and supportive environment for Amelia, keeping her spirits up throughout the disruption of treatment and long periods in isolation at home.
Donations will assist with the travel expenses that are not covered, such as flying brother Travis to visit his sister when away in Auckland, and the ongoing living costs incurred when fighting such a tough challenge.
Thank you for helping Amelia kick cancer to the curb!
We are Amelia's Aunty and Uncle, and part of an extended group of family and friends, who are supporting Amelia and her family through this amazing young girls battle with cancer.
Amelia's Givealittle Page Ends 30 December 2017
As 2017 draws to an end, so too does this Givealittle page for Amelia. After nearly 2 years of treatment, Amelia has now finished and is a much happier and healthier young lady. When this page was started, we knew there was a long and hard road ahead, so it’s with much relief and happiness that we can now end the page on such positive news.
Amelia’s final test results are looking encouraging, and this will be monitored over time moving forward. Amelia spent some time back at school towards the end of 2017, and will be returning there in 2018.
Her Hickman line (permanently in place for testing/treatment) was removed in mid-December, which was another major milestone. This meant Amelia could now go swimming again too, which she did in the ocean on Christmas day with family.
This is a special time of year to come together, and to be thankful for all that we have. Amelia’s recovery is the best possible outcome we could have hoped for, and shows her bravery and courage to get there. The family are very much aware of the challenges others are going through now, having met many other brave young battlers over the course of Amelia’s treatment. We wish them all the very best as well.
We would like to thank everyone for their support and donations, and for helping Amelia throughout her journey. Thank you.
