Helping to raise funds to ensure my sister Amy receives the best treatment & care for her fight with bone cancer.
Bombay, Auckland
My big sister Amy has just received the shock diagnoses of Osteosarcoma, which is a type of Bone Cancer.
Amy's journey started in July 2022 after having experienced months of considerable pain in her left knee. An X-ray showed something small, but an MRI and CT confirmed there was a tumour on the end of her femur. She has a long journey ahead with upwards of 6 cycles of chemo plus an operation. They are also still testing to ensure it hasn't spread, which is an anxious wait for us all.
She is only 27 years old and this is never something I'd ever imagine my big sister having to face at such a young age. Amy is gutsy and is one of the bravest people I know. Somehow despite the uncertainty, she is taking this in her stride and continues to stay positive. She also seems to be more concerned for the people around her which is testament to who she is.
Amy has spent the last 10 years working as an Early Childhood Educator, which she has done with passion and absolute love for the tamariki in her classroom. Doctors have told her she will not be able to work with children while receiving chemo due to her compromised immune system. This means she will be without an income for at least 9 months.
The extra costs associated with her diagnoses, along with having bills and a mortgage to pay are a real burden. The public health system has a long way to go and to ensure she receives the best treatment and care possible, we have set up this page for those who want to contribute.
She is my big sister
Any donations received will be spent on medical supplies, extra costs of care, bills and to alleviate the pressure of Amy not having an income for at least 9 months.
