My blog about my journey to America - 6 Aug 2015
6 August 2015What an amazing experience!
Kia ora whanau, this blog is going to be about my trip over to the USA.
This was a once in a life time trip. I got to watch my idols compete and go to the best theme park in the world, Disneyland. I also got to compete with some amazing athletes from all over the world.
FIRST WEEK
The first week was mostly just getting used to the heat because at 6 o clock in the morning it was already 32 degrees. We had to get used to that first. We then had to be able to workout in the heat which was really challenging but I think I did well.
COMPETITION DAYS
The other challenging thing was the soreness that I had after each workout. It really tests me mentally because even though I didn't want to do it I picked my self up and carried on. Thanks to my mum who massaged my sore legs between WODs.
My main goal for this competition was to do my best. I think that I achieved that because I left it all there and emptied the tank. I was really happy with that. I was happy to make the podium which was my goal when I left home. Congrats to my bro Tuts who took out first place. You were mean brother.
The Gauntlet was more technical than anything else. They don't care how much you can lift but it's how clean you lift it is what they look for. Even though it was a competition it felt more like a learning experience too which was cool also.
SECOND WEEK
To me my favourite part was watching the Crossfit Games. There are no words to describe it. Watching and meeting some of my idols. It felt like a dream. This is a goal of mine in 3 years. After watching the teens I know what it takes to make it to that level and I'm going to work as hard as I can to get there.
There was also a vender village at the games. They had all of the crossfit brands starting from the little ones like rock tape and all the way up to reebok and Rouge. Also some of the athletes that were sponsored were there to help. Dad and I managed to talk to a idol of mine Chris Spealler.
The games is a really big event. There were a lot of people dressed like they were going to the gym with all there nano 5s and 4s.
To finish off I just want to once again say a huge thank you to everyone who helped me get to the states. If it wasn't for you guys I would have not been able to experience all these cool things. Dream big. Chase your dreams hard. Don't let anything hold you back.
To our mean D whanau, thank you very much for the experience. Something I won't forget. We sort of miss you guys too. See you all soon. ?#?CrossFitTairawhiti? # theD
