Andrea Canning (nee Jones) Cancer Fight

  • Update from Andrea Canning :)

Hi there all you generous people. This is a small update on my cancer journey.

I finished the gruelling 2nd round of chemo at the end of August and this was followed by a

lumpectomy and lymph node dissection. Biopsies on the removed tissue showed no sign of cancer

cells so my Oncologist and Surgeon were extremely encouraged by this outcome and said I had had

the best response they could have hoped for!

Immunotherapy has carried on every three weeks throughout this period.

In December I had a 3 week course of daily radiation therapy which was thankfully wrapped up by

Christmas Eve. This is a safety guard to mop up any undetected cancerous cells that could possibly

be lurking in the affected areas.

I have now had 10 of the 16 sessions of Immuno and we are still hopeful this is the icing on the cake

and is going to keep me free from this insidious disease returning.

My hair is growing back, albeit short, grey and a bit curly but I am feeling a lot more energetic and

positive for the year to come.

I feel truly blessed that this has all been made possible and cannot ever thank you enough for the

love and support you have all shown.

    Much love

    Andy & Strat

  • Andrea's progress to date

      6 July 2022

Firstly, we would like to say a HUGE thankyou to all the beautiful people out there! Your extremely generous donations have made a massive difference to the affordability of this potentially life saving treatment. The scale and the scope of this fundraising page has been both tremendously humbling and very gratifying and has made us realise we are not alone in this battle. To date Andy has completed round 1 of her Chemotherapy and has just started on the second 3 month course. It is not nice stuff but in general she has handled it really well and never lost her cheery disposition, sense of humour or positive outlook. In May she began her Keytruda Immunotherapy treatment at Bowen Hospital in Wellington, which will be administered every 3 weeks for the next 45 weeks. She has had 2 sessions so far with no apparent negative side effects but it is way too early yet to assess what positives may be derived from it but we remain hopeful. Ps, unfortunately the extra funding for Pharmac announced in the recent budget did not get down as far as Keytruda used for breast cancer but hopefully at some time in the future, it will. Love Strat and Andrea
