This is why we do what we do. The whanau are always so grateful when we deliver the gifts from their loved one in prison.

  • The Doll and I

When I was a little girl, I had the greatest desire to have a doll. Now, my Mum being from a farming family and perhaps because she had 3 live dolls in the form of younger siblings, didn't believe in dolls. So when I asked for a doll, she bought me a frock instead. Thanks Mum for keeping me clothed

So, birthdays came and went but no doll came but the desire remained strong as ever until perhaps teenage arrived with new desires

Over time I forgot about it and since there were no kiddos to buy toys for, I never ventured into the toys department.

A couple of days ago found me standing in the toy department of a store to buy a toy for a 5-year old little girl whose father is in prison. The brief was to buy something Disney. And the first thing I saw was this Elsa doll.

Holding it in my hand, all those feelings from all those years ago came flooding back, how I have yearned to hold a doll in my hand, how I imagined what it would feel like, what I would do, how I would comb its hair and put on new clothes... And now all these years later, I was holding one to give to a little girl who is the same age as perhaps I was. I cannot express the joy I felt, the gratitude, the overwhelming sense that things had come full circle. I almost bought one for myself

The moral of the story is that, all our desires are ultimately fulfilled, sometimes in ways that are far more blessed than we can imagine.

Thank you Angel Tree for the wonderful gift of giving to these little ones. And so, Elsa the doll will hopefully empower one little girl to realise that she is enormously gifted and to use her gifts for good.
