St Pauls Papanui Beautiful historical stained glass windows destroyed by vandals. Help us raise the money we need to get them repaired.
Papanui, Christchurch
Our Church St Pauls Papanui was broken into and vandalized in December.
They smashed our windows, internal fittings and defaced a gravestone in our yard.
Our beautiful stained glass window of St Paul being destroyed before Christmas was very disheartening.
St Pauls is full of caring, kind people many of whom have served out in the community for decades. It's a place of friendship, worship and peace.
The leadlight window is from 1885 and of the church's name sake St Paul. It has the words “Peace on earth and goodwill toward men” which is from the song of the angels proclaiming the birth of the Messiah to the shepherds at Christmas (Luke 2:14).
We are hoping that the community can help us raise the excess for the insurance so we can get St Pauls back to being a peaceful and complete place for the community.
St Pauls has been in the heart of Papanui since 1853 it is an historic church that has a lot of history attached to it including being the resting place of Charles Upham.
The cost of replacing / restoring the windows is $71,542.69.
The total cost of damage to the church is 78,542.44. We have to pay an excess of $5,000 to the Insurance company so we can get the church repaired.
Any extra that are raised will go towards our community outreach.
Thanks so much for your support and God bless.
