"Street Tails" is reaching out to help the homeless in Christchurch care for their pets.
Canterbury
The team at the Animal Physio NZ in Christchurch has started a new project called “Street Tails''. With this project we are reaching out to help the homeless in Christchurch care for their pets. Many of the homeless people in Christchurch own dogs and they play a big part in their lives. The dogs are family and offer unconditional love, friendship, support and security. But owning a dog is costly and that is why we are reaching out to help. In previous years the Animal Physio NZ has helped by distributing blankets and jackets at the start of the Winter season. But this year we want to take it a step further.
The free services we will provide include basic veterinary care, physiotherapy treatments, grooming and distribution of food, jackets and bedding. A pop up pet health clinic will be set up at the Margaret Mahy playground on Sunday the 9th of May. Our plan is to make this an annual event.
We have an awesome team of volunteers including vets, vet nurses, canine rehabilitation therapists and animal physio technicians. The dogs will get full nose to tail health checks, annual vaccinations, physiotherapy, flea treatment and worming treatment. Dogs that need further medical care will be referred to partnering vet clinics. The dogs will be pampered too with massage, grooming, nail clips and of course lots of cuddles and love. All the dogs will get a warm jacket, blankets, food, treats and a vaccination certificate.
Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust is teaming up with us and will supply bedding, food, treats and also free desexing vouchers through their community desexing program. Other sponsors that have put their hands up to help us are Provet and Pet Central. If you want to be awesome too and help us with our project or donate items please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thank you so much for your support :-)
Funds will be used for supplies like vaccinations, flea and worm treatments and medications. We will also use the funds for dogs that need further veterinary care and treatments.
