The Animals in the Marshall Islands desperately need your help to improve their welfare and chance of survival
Iakwe, my name is Laura, I'm from New Zealand but I've been living in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) for three years now. I thought it was about time I spoke out about the situation for animals and why we desperately need your help...
The Marshall Islands is a small island nation located in Micronesia between Hawaii and Australia, right above Kiribati, it is a beautiful country to live however, it is still one of the ONLY countries in the ENTIRE WORLD that doesn't have any veterinarians or vet clinic to care for domesticated animals.
There is a large US military base on Kwajalein atoll, with a dedicated vet clinic but - they are only allowed to take care of those animals WITHIN the base - no animals outside are allowed to access care - even those living on Ebeye, an island which is a short 15min boat ride away! There is also a livestock vet from Taiwan funded through the government - but their job is only to look after farming animals like pigs.
The dogs and cats of the Marshall Islands literally have nothing.
Since COVID-19, this situation has become even worse. In March 2020 the country placed a ban on all international arrivals and the borders have been CLOSED to the outside world ever since, and its still continuing in March 2022.
We've witnessed some of the most horrible struggles by these poor animals. Increase in stray animals, puppy drownings, hit and runs by cars, open wound infections, and preventable deaths...see the photos - we desperately need help!

MIOAW is a registered charity in the islands that is led by a group of volunteers. I am a representative of the organization.
The money will be spent on essential medical supplies, antibiotics, vaccinations, anesthetics and veterinarian equipment. We are also looking to raise funds to bring a vet into the country so please indicate if you'd also like to support this goal
