Auckland Roller Derby League is raising funds to represent NZ in a tournament in the USA this June by completing a mega Skateathon in April!
Auckland
In April 2017 Auckland Roller Derby League (ARDL) will complete a mega skateathon, collectively completing 7,031 laps of the roller derby track (over 500 laps each and 387km of skating)! The number of laps represents the distance from our training venue in Glenfield, Auckland to the location of The Big Island Brawl, an international roller derby tournament we are attending in Hawaii - 7,031km away!
Auckland Roller Derby League (ARDL) is an amateur skater-owned and run flat-track roller derby league. ARDL is a member of the Women's Flat-Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and full of derby enthusiasts who train hard in order to play hard. Whether we are wearing wheels of not, our league is constantly reaching higher limits and growing every season with national and international experiences.
ARDL is 100% run by the players and funded via our weekly subscriptions which covers league insurance, renting our training venue, hosting public games and much more. Unfortunately our subscriptions barely cover our costs so throughout the year we run a number of fundraising drives to ensure we can continuing playing high-level roller derby and increase the profile of the sport in New Zealand.
Currently we are focusing a lot of effort on fundraising to cover the costs of entering The Big Island Brawl – an international Roller Derby tournament in Hawaii which will bring together teams from NZ, Japan and the USA.
Please sponsor us for our skateathon. We'll keep you updated through the month on the number of laps we have completed. This will be a tough challenge, as we will only be counting laps that are specifically completed as part of the challenge, and not laps done as part of our standard training! You can sponsor us per lap, or as a lump sum. Either way, every little will help so we can represent New Zealand Roller Derby in the United States.
Love and shoves, ARDL
Auckland Roller Derby promotes sport over spectacle and believes that unity, hard work, determination and dedication to the game are the keys to success.
We are fundraising for the opportunity to represent New Zealand in a tournament in the USA in June this year.
Closing stages...!!! 26 April 2017
Our feet may be sore and our toenails may be barely hanging on, but we've nearly reached the end of our challenge! Despite heavy rain flooding our venue, and Easter getting in the way, we only have 1400 laps to go with four and a half days left of the challenge. We are going to try and smash out most of the last few laps AFTER our scrimmage tonight with some of Pirate City. *EEEKKK*. Special thanks go to Eve, who has more than pulled her weight and casually skated more than 800 laps - she's a machine!
