A simple mates looking out for mates situation
Canterbury
On the 27th of December, Andrew and his friend Ben were involved in a horrific tobogganing accident at a public park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. At an accelerated speed they hit a slab of hidden concrete at the bottom of the hill, both suffering serious injuries. They were hospitalised and underwent major surgeries. Ben broke his back in two places. Andrew shattered his jaw, lost multiple teeth and broke eight of his ribs.
He underwent an eight hour major facial reconstruction surgery which resulted in him being in a coma for 4 days. When he woke, he was faced with titanium plates inserted where his jaw bone and chin used to be. His jaw, held together with metal screws and bolts. Andrew's road to recovery is going to be a long and extensive one. He will require multiple follow up visits with his surgeons, additional surgeries, and speech therapy before he will be able to reach his full recovery.
Throughout this process, Andrew's Canadian medical and health coverage had been revoked for circumstances outside his control. While he is attempting to secure future coverage, he has received numerous amounts of medical costs that continue to increase as the time goes on. In addition, with everything going on it is unclear as to when Andrew will be able to return to his work.
With him being overseas during this time and away from family, it felt crucial for us to step in to help. As a good friend of Andrew and with the support of his loved ones, we have put together this page in hopes to alleviate some of the financial stress that has been added to the physical and mental stress of the injuries he has endured.
On behalf of Andrew, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your kindness during this time. It is sincerely appreciated.
I am Andrew’s very close friend of many years.
The money will go towards assisting Andrew with medical care and day to day living expenses whilst he is off work.
