I'm just a single gal trying to make a dent in the stray cat population of Auckland by rescuing and rehoming as many kittens as I can.
Ponsonby, Auckland
I'm Sarah - and I started rescuing cats and kittens around 15 years ago first of all volunteering with a bigger organization, and then going out on my own. I rescue and rehome around 100 kittens a year - which isn't much compared to some of the bigger groups, but not too bad when you think I'm doing this on my own, a one-woman-band. I work full time and juggle the rescue work before/ after work and on the weekends. I receive NO funding, just donations here and there from amazing people and a little to cover some costs when I adopt out kittens. NO kitten leaves my care undesexed - I am here to try and make a difference, no matter how small that may be.
All donations I receive goes directly back into the essential care of the kittens I rescue. This helps cover costs such as: desexing, microchipping, vaccinations, worm + flea treatments, cat litter, cat food and the never ending vet bills!
No end to "Kitten Season"... 20 May 2026
At a time when kitten season should be slowing down… it’s not. If anything, it feels like it’s getting harder, not easier. Instead of the numbers easing off, they’re still coming - more calls, more messages, more kittens needing somewhere safe to land.
I am completely at capacity - and beyond. Every space in my home is full, every spare moment is spoken for, and every day is a balancing act of feeding, cleaning, medicating, and simply trying to keep everyone well.
As much as I wish I could help every cat and kitten that needs it, I simply can’t. That’s honestly one of the hardest parts - knowing there are more out there, knowing they need help, and knowing I don’t have the space or resources to say yes.
