Ava's Fight Against Ewing Sarcoma – Help the Lyall Family
Ashburton, Canterbury
On July 29th, Hayden and Tracey Lyall heard the words no parent ever wants to hear — their vibrant, active 9-year-old daughter, Ava, has cancer. What started as a sore leg turned out to be something far more serious: a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer called Ewing Sarcoma.
Ava’s treatment plan is intensive: months of chemotherapy, major surgery, followed by more chemo. Doctors estimate at least 9 to 12 months of treatment and recovery — a long road ahead for a young girl who just wants to get back to gymnastics, dance, hockey, and water skiing.
For Tracey and Hayden, this is every parent's nightmare. The impact has been immediate and overwhelming. Their family routine has been replaced with hospital visits, uncertainty, and emotional exhaustion.
Tracey has taken extended leave from work to be by Ava’s side, while Hayden is juggling work, travel, and caring for their other two children, Angus and Millie, at home.
Tracey and Hayden don’t like asking for help. However this is a massive journey, with a massive impact on their income and it doesn’t feel right leaving them to crack into it on their own. Taking financial pressure off means they can focus on what matters most: Ava’s health and keeping their family strong.
Anything you can give helps, and sharing this with others who know Ava and the Lyalls would mean the world.
💛 Thank you for your support
Tracey is one of my closest friends. We met in Ashburton, were each other bridesmaids, navigate motherhood and now ageing together! Tracey is someone I laugh with and lean on and I can't believe the journey they are now on!
To help ease the financial burden of Tracey stopping work and Hayden working reduced hours.

Ava is now at cycle 6 of chemotherapy, which is going well. She has further tests next week, followed by her operation (details are still being worked through) We are staying positive and hopeful.
