Awhi ki Māhia - Cyclone Gabrielle

$4,155 donated
Given by 32 generous donors in 4 weeks

This page has been set up by a collective of Māhia people, that can't get back home currently, but want to support the whānau there.

Hawke's Bay

The impact on the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast regions is unprecedented, our hearts go out to all those who have lost whānau and/or property. We are grateful that Māhia has not been as severely affected as other parts of the region, however, the negative impact on its residents and visitors will be felt for a while.

This page has been set up to enable those with connections to Māhia to be able to support in a manner, no matter how big or small, that reaches where the need is most. This will change daily, if not on an hourly basis.

Māhia Restoration Trust is a charitable organisation whose fundamental purpose is to support the Māhia community. They will ensure 100% of the funds contributed go directly to where the need is most. The Civil Defence, Police, Health providers, and Iwi are all doing great work and Māhia Restoration Trust will complement the work of these organisations to ensure the best outcomes for our community.

That being said, the Civil Defence / Iwi emergency centre at Mokotahi Hall ceased operation on Monday 20th February at 5.00pm.

The Māhia Restoration Trust, through experience, recognises that there is often a ‘long tail’ of such events and will ensure the community has the resources it requires long after the civil emergency.

WHAKATIKA TAWHITO O TE MAHIA

About us

This page has been set up by a collective of Māhia people, that can't get back home currently, but want to support the whānau there. The funds go directly to Māhia Restoration Trust Charity - as they are haukainga, kanohi ki te kanohi, pakahiwi ki te pakahiwi, with our ahikā, our home people.

Use of funds

The Māhia Restoration Trust are on the ground right now, visiting families and providing food in the most isolated and vulnerable areas of the community, who cannot easily access services for themselves.
