9 Month old and parents lose everything in Napier flooding

A young kiwi family recently moved home to NZ to start again with their baby girl; they have now lost everything due to the flooding.

Hawke's Bay, Napier City

Many friends and family members have offered help/support to Martyn, Rachel and baby Scarlett Theobald after they lost their home and all their possessions as a result of the flooding that ripped through Pakowhai in Napier, one of the worst hit areas in the Hawkes Bay. Martyn, Rachel and 9 month old Scarlett spent as much as 6 hours on top of neighbouring rooftops to escape the rising floodwaters, awaiting evacuation. Martyn and Rachel left the house with the clothes on their backs and some possessions for Scarlett. Martyn eventually climbed down from the rooftop thinking the floodwaters were dissipating, to swim back to the house and claim some nappies and food. Unfortunately, on his way back to Rachel and Scarlett, the floodwaters again rose and washed it all away. They only came back to New Zealand early August after teaching English in Abu Dhabi for 4 years to start their lives again in Napier. Sadly they have lost everything, cars, motorbikes, one belonging to his sister, all their clothing and possessions. Martyn and Rachel, I know are very humble and would never ask for anything themselves, therefore as his mother and sisters, we would like to put this message out to all those that are able to give a little to help them start again. The sights they have seen and the story they tell is scary and harrowing. We are just so thankful that they are alive.

Use of funds

Any funds raised will go a long way to help/support this young family to replace what they have lost. From things for Scarlett, vehicles, appliances, clothing, home essentials etc. This will help towards insurance cost as they only have some contents insurance.
