Help New Zealand's #1 Adaptive HYROX athlete defend her World Championship title and continue competing on the world stage.
Imagine being the best in the world at what you do, representing New Zealand, winning a World Championship gold medal, and still having to fund the journey yourself.
That is the reality for my best friend, Maiz.
Last month, our whānau raised $17,000 in three weeks to get Maiz and her coach to the HYROX World Championships in Sweden. Despite having the least physical function in her category and competing without a specialised HYROX racing chair, Maiz achieved what many thought was impossible. She became Adaptive HYROX World Champion and is now ranked #1 in the world.
She competed using her rugby chair and everyday wheelchair, transferring between them during the race. She also lacked specialised equipment for her hand function. Out of 104 New Zealand athletes at HYROX Worlds, Maiz was the only athlete to bring home a gold medal.
Maiz receives no financial support and must personally cover the costs of competing internationally. These costs include specialised equipment, accessible accommodation, flights, entry fees, coach support, and travel expenses.
Funds raised will help purchase a specialised HYROX racing chair, adaptive equipment, coach travel and support, accessible accommodation, and international competition costs.
Upcoming events include Spain, Australia, and preparations to defend her World Championship title in Hong Kong in 2027.
Every donation helps keep our champion competing, inspiring others, and wearing the silver fern.
Thank you for your support today!!
