Helping the homeless community in Auckland one care bag at a time!
Auckland
Kia ora,
My name is Taylor and I am 11 years old.
Recently in a social studies class, we were learning about a man who invented a backpack for the homeless that turns into a sleeping bag and this got me thinking... what can I do to help our homeless community in Auckland (and maybe one day New Zealand wide)
Analysis of 2013 Census data by the University of Otago (Amore, 2016) found 20,296 Aucklanders met the definition of homeless.
This is how Bags of Hope NZ was born.
Bags of Hope is a small, lightweight backpack filled with the following care items:
Soap
Toothpaste
Toothbrush
Sanitary Products (for female bags)
Pack of Wet Wipes
Pack of Tissues
Lip Balm
Hairbrush / Comb
Deodorant
Band-Aids
Each care bag costs approximately $20 this includes the bag and the care items.
The care bags will be handed out by myself and my family to homeless people in Auckland as well as distributed to homeless shelters.
My first goal is to distribute 200 bags. I have saved $200 of my pocket money to get started and my mum and dad have donated $500 to the start-up fund for purchasing the bags and the items to fill the bags. This is enough to fill 35 care bags.
Thank you for visiting!
Taylor

“Kindness. A simple way to tell another struggling soul that there is love to be found in this world”
This was my daughters idea and I am assisting her with the cause (she is 11 years old)
Funds donated will go towards purchasing bags & items needed for the bags. Bags will be handed out by ourselves/family members/volunteers to homeless people in Queen Street for examples. Bags will be dropped at The City Mission and other homeless shelters.
Thank you so much! Taylor x
