Be Part of Simon’s fight against Stage 4 Bowel cancer

  • Treatment update after the start of a new cycle

      17 July 2018

Hi everyone, I thought it was about time I posted an update on my progress over the last month.

It's certainly been a month of ups and downs.

The start of cycle 3 was fine and things were tracking well, until I came down with the chicken pox. It's certainly something you don’t want to get as an adult, especially while going through chemo. Just as well my oncologist gave me a strong dose of medication to help me through it.

On the upside the kids had their dose of it too, good to get that out of the way for them at a young age.

This hiccup delayed the start of my 4th cycle, I thought it may disrupt my trip to Sydney for my Mum's 80th. It didn’t, we got there in the end and had a great few days with family and friends.

So it was off to Palmerston yesterday for the start of my 5th cycle on the new regimen. Treatment went well and I'm now back at home resting up. Mind you there's not much rest with the kids being home on school holidays, should be fun though.

At this stage I will be having another CT scan towards the end of August, so will keep you all updated. In the meantime it's a case of remaining positive and doing everything in my power to beat this.

    Cheers Simon

  • CT Scan Update

      9 June 2018

It was a long anxious day of waiting on Wednesday, but I finally had the call from my oncologist later that night. I am pleased to say that he delivered some good news. From the scan they can see that the cancer has not spread and there are no new lesions in the liver. No metastasis are larger, in some cases they have reduced slightly in size. It's not quite the gains my Oncologist was after but at least we are heading in the right direction with this new treatment regimen.

The specialists have ruled out surgery at the moment, so the plan for now is to hit this cancer with more of the same for another 3 cycles. We will then reassess with a further CT scan and take it from there.

So all in all I am keeping positive and enjoying the good moments and managing the tougher ones.

The support is what's carrying me forward so for that I am truly grateful.

    Cheers,

    Simon

After receiving another dose of cancer blasting chemo yesterday, this morning I head into Broadway Radiology for my first CT scan since starting the new treatment regime.

So let’s get to it and see where this cancer thing is at. Of course I’m feeling the usual scanxiety, that’s tough. My body and mind feels sapped from this chemo, so let’s hope it’s doing it’s business and I have some positive results.

I would like to thank you all once again for your love and support, it has been truly inspiring to have you all behind me and supporting my family through this extremely challenging time.

    Cheers,

    Simon

  • The start of a new cycle

      28 May 2018

    Hi everyone,

Just touching base to let you know that I started my 3rd cycle of the new chemo treatment today.

We had the usual consult with oncologist before starting treatment. The report was positive with my liver function blood tests heading in the right direction and improving slightly.

Still early days but I am keeping positive and enjoying the good days. I will be having a CT scan next week to determine where things are at in more detail.

Thanks again for your amazing support we are very grateful.

Love Sime, Bec, Mia and Will
