Ben's Road to Recovery

  • Update - Taken from Ben's Farrier Facebook Page

      1 September 2022

"For anybody who missed all the drama on here last week, last Monday I suffered a severe knock to the head from a gate whilst working. The past week has involved an induced coma, plane trip from Wellington hospital to Palmy and last night I was admitted to ABI Rehabilitation at Kennepuru Hospital to continue with my rehab.

Whilst I’ve been off work, Ive received so much support on my givealittle page https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/bens-road-to-recovery

and countless hours of support from friends and so many kind messages from family.

What the next month looks like is as follows: I don’t know how long my rehabilitation is going to take, but I’ve still got all of my fingers and toes and my fantastic sense of humour which is a good start.

Paolo Zio Ardiani is still out and about in my truck for another 6 days and Nicholas O'Leary has kindly offered to fill in wherever he can.

After this, Paolo will be on pre arranged 2 weeks in Colorado spending time with my personal friends Steve and Nell Foxworth as well as attending an ELPO Forging and Farrier Skills Course which he received a scholarship for last month. We’re all very excited for Paolo to have had the opportunity of so many weeks on his own with the shoeing run and then wrapping it up nicely with a 2 week educational trip to Colorado next month, and feel like this is all going to be a very formative opportunity for his career 😊

As well as Paolo and Nic, we have had lots of other support from our local community, including our neighbours ringing to help with groceries and trying their best to help Kirsty with the 5 horses and 20 calves she’s trying to feed, around school visits and feeding herself/Emily! Just to top it off, I’ve had Kirsty driving all around the countryside to see me and left her in charge of being secretary for my shoeing run! So she’s doing exceptionally well and I’m very grateful to her and everyone who has helped."

Good to hear you’re making some strides and haven’t lost your sense of humour, Ben. Look forward to seeing you when you’re feeling better. All the best from Jane and Fraser and Chief!
