Bernadette has a Fractured Pelvis :(

  • Offering you a refund of your donation to Bernadette has a Fractured Pelvis :(

We are getting in touch to let you know that the final vet cost for Bernadette was $675. This leaves approximately $2,000 of donations remaining after the vet bill has been paid.

Unfortunately the surgery is not going ahead because not enough was raised and it requires payment up front (no payment plans available).

The excess donations (2k) will be used for any ongoing vet bills, medical care, special dietary needs, and care while she heals and beyond.

If you would like a refund of your donation, please get in touch with Givealittle at helpdesk@givealittle.co.nz by 5pm Tuesday 18th May 2021.

Kia ora all, unfortunately it looks like we won't be hitting our target goal for donations, and because surgery requires payment upfront (no payment plans available) it looks like Bernie will have to forgo surgery :(

She is at home resting now, and will be in a cage for the next 4-6 weeks, and inside the house for 2 weeks after. She got her fentenyl patch off yesterday, and after not defecating since the accident, she finally did so! She is still on anti-inflammatories, pain killers, and laxatives. She has started standing a bit occasionally, which the vet says is good. She's also been eating shredded chicken and soft foods now! We're hoping with complete bed rest, she will be able to heal without surgery. The vet said she thinks this should be doable.

Just letting you all know that every dollar means the world to us, regardless of not meeting our donation goal! Money will go to current and ongoing vet bills, medical care, special dietary needs, and care while she heals and beyond. We wouldn't be able to afford even the primary vet bill without your help! So thank you all so much for sharing and caring ❤

I'll be working on art pieces next week to send to any donators who would like to recieve. Please feel free to email me with your address any time and I'll post them when they're complete.

Unfortunately, the only vet surgeon in Wellington (Massey) will not take Bernadette into surgery without a deposit for half the surgery costs upfront. Because the givealittle is not only a far reach from its end goal, but will not be released until late next month. This means we cannot get the surgery, at least not at this time.

But, on the bright side, after getting second opinions from the senior vet at Karori and a previous working surgeon looking at the x-rays we have, they say that with 4-6 weeks strict bed rest and check ups, she should heal well.

She still hasn't defecated, which is concerning, but she has a check up on Friday morning to replace her fentanyl patch so hopefully by then there has been progress.

She is on anti-inflammatories and laxatives twice a day with food, but she hasn't eaten much aside from gravy.

She is happy to be home with her furry dog sister Roo and brother bunny Jaime, as well as the flatmate family. I've put her cage in the living room so she can have pets and visits. I'll be working on the thank you art in the living room with her owed to anyone who has donated and wishes to receive in the post.

Feel free to email me at meah.mareah@gmail.com with your address if you would like one!

And again, thank you for caring for us, we appreciate it deeply. We will keep you updated on her progress as she heals ❤

  • Request for surgery

Went to visit Bernie today at Karorir Veterinary Clinic. X-rays show her pelvis is worse than thought in terms of narrowing, plus 2 fractures they could see. The left pelvic bone is fine, but the right one is angled very narrow. It means a hit and run is likely what caused the injuries. She has been put on pain medication and anti inflamatories, but they were unable to get her on a drip or properly fix a catheter.

She is relatively happy and snoozy so long as she isn't moved. She was eager for pats and fell asleep on my hand puring, so she's resting up well-heeled! She has eaten, but hasn't drank much water and has yet to urinate or defecate, so they will put her on some laxatives later if there is still no success.

A request with the Massey University Animal Surgery department was made today, and they will ring me with an update on the procedure from here sometime tomorrow. They will do further x-rays to make sure there aren't any joint fractures.

I'm boosting the donation goal to $5, as the nurse said it is unlikely to be less than that.

Thank you all for your support and love, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and cannot thank you all enough. Please continue to share wherever you can!

And if you want some thank you art posted, please do not hesitate to email me with your mailing address at meah.mareah@gmail.com
