Cancer Treatment Support

      16 June 2014

It is with utmost sadness that I'm writing this final update email to you lot who have helped in one way or the other to this cause. My friend - Shridhar Bhat, as he was known as, passed away in the early hours of today morning NZT. His battle with Burkitts Lyphoma couldn't last any longer and he breathed his last after a 5-month struggle. As shocking as it may or may not sound, what's more sadder is the fact that he was only 33 yrs old, non-smoking-teetotaler-pure vegetarian-100% fit guy and had no symptoms of anything unusual. From the time of diagnosis he lived for less than 5 months in total, of which almost 4+ months he was in the hospital. A perfectly healthy person had absolutely no clue what life had in store for him. This just shows how unfair life can be to even the nicest of the people. Anyway on his behalf I just wanted to thank you all for all the support, love, prayers and blessings that were showered over him over the last 5 months. And during this period one message he constantly passed to me, which I inturn I want to let you all know is ""Please appreciate whatever you have in life and enjoy each & every second of it - life is too short to be chasing something you don't have. And most importantly take good care of your body when you can, 'cuz even the best of the doctors cannot foresee the uncertainties that occur underneath the skin"". For now I shall pass all your condolences to his family, knowing that he's in a better place than the rest of us. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me after 6pm anyday. The news to me is still unfathomable and its a lot easier to not lose focus at work, if I'm not contacted during business hours.

Firstly a HUGE thanks to everyone who managed to contribute to this fundraising cause. It made a significant difference to the entire process. We managed to raise over $11000 and donations are still pouring in. Please continue to do so as long as you can as every dollar will surely be well utilised. Next, I thought I'd update you all with the current situation so you (or whoever you have forwarded this to) are aware of it and continue with this cause. My mate had been doing well for the last few weeks, after nearly 4 months of different forms of treatment. There were some positive signs for a brief period but unfortunately the cancer cells relapsed and their activity reappeared over the ANZAC weekend. The doctors in New Zealand advised that there was no further treatment options left and the couple had to fly back to their home country immediately. They flew out of the country yesterday morning and have arrived home safely after a long journey. With the last minute rush and the uncertainty of when (and if) they can come back, it was decided to sell away all their possessions so they can start a new life on their return. All the funds raised thus far, helped heaps to cover their travel costs. The remaining funds will be used for ongoing treatment back in their homeland and anything leftover will further be used to set up a new home when they return. At this stage, it's all your prayers, wishes & blessings that will help them face the situation with courage and come out of it. Please continue to contribute and forward the link to your respective networks. Its the only way we all can help and let us all show that we can.

  • Thank You All

A huge thanks to all those who have contributed so far. Its very nice to the see the generosity. A humble request would be post your names when donating, so when we pass on the funds to our friend, they know who all have helped them and be thankful. You may or may not wish to hide the amount. It's not 'how much' you donate that matters; it's just the thought that counts. Thanks again...
