The NZ dotterel is a threatened shorebird and can live up to 25 years old.
Auckland
The endangered New Zealand dotterel/tūturiwhatu is found nowhere else on Earth. Their nests are simple scrapes in the sand, and from the moment they hatch, the chicks must find their own food — though their parents fiercely defend them from danger.
With more than 75% of our indigenous species at risk of extinction*, the Pest Free Waitākere Ranges Alliance is raising funds to help protect the many unique species of the Waitākere Ranges. Your donation for the New Zealand dotterel/tūturiwhatu directly supports the work of Karekare Landcare as they safeguard these precious shorebirds.
Thank you for standing up for a bird now rarer than the kiwi.

The Pest Free Waitākere Ranges Alliance (PFWRA) is an alliance of networks and groups restoring biodiversity in the Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area.
All funds raised will be used to resource volunteer groups to improve habitat, keep predators in check, and undertake monitoring activity to give tūturiwhatu, and the other special species of the Waitākere Ranges, the best chance possible.
