Blind musician looses his professional keyboard in an unforeseen accident.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Many of you will remember listening to Richard playing around Christchurch with his faithful dog beside him. Richard has given much to the city with his music, so when I heard that Richard's keyboard was broken I thought it was time for Christchurch to give something back to Richard. He is an amazingly talented musician & his keyboard is everything to him, both his passion & income. Let's raise the money to get Richard playing again.
Richard was born with a cancer that made him go blind; however, he developed a love for music. He won the nationally televised Opportunity Knocks in 1975 at 19. Since then he has been active in the music scene, playing at restaurants, rest homes, schools & functions. Sadly, Richard’s keyboard was damaged at a job last week & cannot be fixed, which leaves Richard without income. This is one of many curveballs Richard has been thrown recently, starting with the earthquake where we lost the restaurants he loved to play at. He turned to rest homes & functions. In 2017, his daughter was diagnosed with cancer, Marilyn left work to look after her, therefore the family only had his income. After her death in 2019, things were getting back on track, only for COVID to hit. In lockdown Richard couldn’t go out to play & Marilyn’s job was in jeopardy. Since returning to work, both have had their hours halved. With the loss of the keyboard, he will not be able to play and earn a living for his family. Please help Richard get a keyboard.
Marilyn is one of my closest friends who has always been there for me I am so pleased that I can support them in this way
To replace his keyboard and buy the pedals, bag and other items compatible with it. Any money left over will be set aside for the upkeep and servicing of the keyboard
