Cameron to stop the finger prick blood tests for diabetes & utilise technology to buy a scanning monitoring sensor.
Wellington
My grandson Cameron is 6 and has type 1 Diabetes which he has had for over two years. He is very brave and deals with the daily multiple insulin injections and finger pricks.
In Australia there is a new piece of technology available which will help make living with diabetes slightly easier, it is call the Freestyle Abbott Libre Glucose Monitoring System. This device is a sensor which is worn under the skin to continuously monitor blood glucose levels, trends and tracking patterns in people with insulin dependent diabetes. Cameron's paediatrician recommended this continuous glucose monitor. It will not only help to provide trends and patterns to help us to more accurately control his diabetes, it will also provide Cameron with greater independence.
https://www.freestylelibre.com.au/ as this is an Australian website the prices are in AU dollars.
I am Cameron's grandmother. I want to support him to manage his diabetes as he grows up so he can be as independent as possible.
We are hoping to raise money for a year’s supply of sensors for Cameron.
There is a one off cost for the reader of AU$95 (NZ$103) and the ongoing cost of the sensor. Each sensor costs AU$95 (NZ$103) which lasts a maximum of two weeks. That is a total of $2575. Including postage from Australia and spare sensors, the target amount will be $3000.
