Help us maintain Jewish education and environments for youth in New Zealand.
Nationwide
Bnei Akiva is back with our first major fundraiser since 2017 - help us beat the $15,000 they raised that year. As well as helping recover from the big financial hit we took when Covid canceled summer camp last year, there are several areas where we need support, and the funds raised will be spread across them:
Events including our opening seminar where our madrichim (leaders) learn and prepare for the year ahead, our shabbatonim (Shabbat weekend stay-over) and sending chanichim (campers) and madrichim to Bnei Akiva Federal Camp in Australia (as well as other Bnei Akiva Australia collaborations) are run at a loss. With flights and other prices increasing our losses on these have increased as well. While we do what we can to minimise these they are somewhat inevitable if we want to keep running Bnei Akiva, so we need to raise money that can be put aside for these events in future years.
Secondly is our camps, where we are committed to ensuring that no children cannot attend camp due to financial difficulties. With increased camp costs (flights, food and campsites primarily), the number and amount required to support this goal has significantly increased in recent years.
Finally, most of our tziud (equipment) including our siddurim, electronics and educational resources, has been around since I started Bnei (way back in 2011) or longer. Some of it is getting old and broken, and we need money to buy new tziud that can last the next generation another 15+ years.
Bnei Akiva New Zealand aims to create a place for youth within our nation to have an environment where they can express and discover more about their Jewish identity.
Some will be spent on our usual activities: Our biannual national camps, educational programmes and activities throughout the year, and leadership training for madrichim. In addition, we will be upgrading our tziud (equipment) as much of it is getting old and broken.
