Commemorative plaque at the site of the kuaka/godwit sculpture on Bridge Street to mark its installation on 22 September 2019.
Canterbury
We are raising funds to install a boulder and plaque to mark the installation of the kuaka/godwit sculpture on Bridge Street. The plaque will record the official opening date, and include information on the significance of the champion flier for the South Brighton area. The spectacular artwork project had its beginnings back in 2012 and took over six years to complete. It would not have been possible without the support and donations from local residents and help from the pupils at South Brighton School. The finished result is not only a fabulous sight for commuters crossing the bridge; it is also a useful weather vane since the birds revolve on the poles, showing passers-by the current wind direction and indicating any changes in conditions we may expect.
So now, we would like to complete the site. Would you like to help?
