    It recently occured to me that I hadn't given an update for quite some time... I know this page is now closed, but still, for those interested, here's a little update. It's coming up 2 years and while I'm doing a lot better, I still have my moments...

    I've adopted a beautiful young black cat, who is affectionally called Bre, she's my shadow and helps me a lot mentally/emotionally - I share videos of her on Brina's reddit page, for anyone that followed Brinas adventures. My partner and I moved flat, mostly due to renting costs, but also for a fresh start and it has helped my headspace a lot. Brinas bills were all paid off - THANK YOU!!!! I am still yet to buy her the purrrfect urn, my heart is still struggling with choosing the right one.

    I'd like to express my grattitude and appreciation to everyone that donated towards Brina's healthcare costs. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for helping me to help her.

  • Almost 2 months later...

    I've been attempting to write an update for at least 2 weeks, but I still can't find the right words.

    With just 1 payment left to make on her final vet bill, I want to say another big thank you to all the support and kind words.

    ...I still need your help though, as I choose the purrrfect urn for her, while I'm sure she's happy with her little cardboard box, I feel like she deserves better.

    I would also love to be able to donate to cat/animal charities in her honor.

    Whether a big or small donation, it all adds up and helps a lot.

  • Celebrations and heartbreaking goodbyes

    She made it to 22! She thoroughly enjoyed her cake, getting "frosting" all over her face :)

    But after the clock struck midnight, her health took a devastating turn... her wee body was starting to shutdown. She didn't want to move, not even to adjust herself to have a drink of water. Her behavour wasn't right. Her sides were swollen - likely her kidneys and/or liver failing.

    My beautiful little girl crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully in my arms on the 13th, 2 days after her birthday.

    I have decided to extend this fundraiser to January... with the busy holiday season approaching, her food is sometimes out of stock nationwide and almost impossible to source. Just like everything else, her food has gone up in price as well... which is becoming noticeable since I buy a box of 12 sachets every week, it's about a $5 increase. So to have the ability to buy her backup food and any other necessities she needs, is such a huge relief! No pressure to donate heaps, everything helps and is so damn appreciated!

  • Counting down to her birthday!

    Just want to say a massive thank you to those of you that have donated, it has helped cover medication and food costs, as well as unexpected vet visits that were needed.

    Brina continues to enjoy snoozing to her nature videos & attempting to avoid her medication... she's doing well, all things considered. Demanding all the cuddles, scritches & attention as always!

  • Vet Visit Update

    Her follow-up appointment went well, the vet was happy to prescribe more pain relief, alongside gel for her gums. Brina has gained a little weight, which is fantastic & she has a good appetite at the moment.

      That title is misleading... her birthday is on 11th November, so I have altered the finishing date to mostly match that

  • Upcoming Vet Visit

    She's booked in for a follow-up this week, as the vet won't prescribe any more pain relief until they check on Brina's quality of life. It's been 3 months since her last appointment and she's doing tremendously better, with small DIY jobs - padding door corners and making a carpet runway for her... her balance has significantly improved! I'll do another update once she's had her checkup - I hope they're just as proud of her as I am :)

    Since it's winter in NZ, it's far too cold to take her for walks to the park so I've setup a tablet for her to watch birds while she relaxes on her heated couch. She loves it and as a result she has stopped crying out for me every few minutes, she taps the screen and sniffs it to try get the birds, purrs so loud and falls asleep watching her T.V. She's doing well :)

  • Fortnightly repeat pain meds needed

    She needs daily anti inflammatories to help her arthritis, since giving her pain relief regularly her balance has improved and she is hardly falling over herself... Still a little wobbly, but significantly better! I would think the almost daily salmon fillet bites will be helping a lot as well. But of course they come with a cost... At $30 a fortnight for that prescription, it's adding up quickly.

      Her appetite has slightly increased since the pain meds are working and she isn't too sore to move. I'm sure she's gained a tiny bit of weight since her last appointment, thanks to her regular salmon bites. That's 2 great things, so I'm buying more kidney health food to accomodate her healthy appetite, although I'm concerned that she isn't keeping it all down... she has her liver supplement everyday, although she doesn't approve of it and often pees in protest. She's doing okay with her meds, my family arrive on Tuesday to spend some time with her :) can we get her to 22?? 5 months to go!
