Returning a historic train back to its ancestoral home for a breif visit
Kaitangata, Otago
In 1971 amidsts a unprofitable coal operation, decling population and change in global economics the NZ mines department decided to donate the 'Improved F-Class Kaitangata' locomotive to the west coast historical and mechanical society. It is now one of four locomotives at the Shanty town historical village.
We believe this historic train (loco) should be returned home for a brief visit where it can be admired and appreciated by its ancestors, locals and maybe tourists that would be injected and drawn to the Clutha district.
It might not happen in our generation and if this give a little cant pull it off maybe somebody else who might be inspired enough by this attempt and the great facebook pages of Kai not to mention the proud history of Kaitangata can get her done.
20% of all donations will also go towards the Kaitangata Museum
