Bringing Kerry home - a space to contribute if you would like to.
Waiwera, Auckland
As many of you are aware, in October 2022, while Dad (Kerry) was in Germany, he suffered a significant stroke and was left paralysed on one side.
Dad has been in rehabilitation in Germany since that time, and is making progress. His care has been lovingly managed by Karin (his wife) and Philipp (my stepbrother), but now, due to changes in health, it is time to bring Kerry home and care for him in New Zealand. A very difficult and challenging decision for all to make, but one that health conditions have taken from our hands.
I spoke to Kerry today, and he said, just get me the cheapest flight (typical Kerry for those who know him). However, what Kerry doesn't quite understand at the moment, is that due to his current level of care, he needs to be accompanied by a carer (and the hospital and doctors have recommended he return on business class flights). Costs are significant ($25-30k NZD) and a couple of people have asked if there is a way they could contribute, so we thought we would set up this page to support Kerry - he wouldn't ask for himself I am sure. So no pressure, but a space for you to contribute if you would like to.
Kerry is my Dad, who has been beside my side at challenging times earlier in my life, and my brother, Simon, and I want to support him through this next phase
All funds raised will go towards return flight for NZ based nurse / carer (NZ/ Frankfurt), flight for Kerry (Frankfurt NZ), carer's fees, comprehensive travel insurance, wheel chair hire, interim care on return while waiting on needs assessment or nurse carer to home.
Hi Barbara, Thanks so much for your contribution, it is really helpful at this time. The nurse has flown out from NZ and brings him back arriving 20 April, it will be great to have him home, although no doubt challenging times still to come. Love, Mel
Hey Hellen Thanks so much!!!!! Yes fingers crossed on a smooth trip :) Hugs, Mel
Hey Diane Thanks so much, the contribution is really appreciated! Great, Mel
Thanks so much for your contribution - it will really help us support Kerry, both bringing him home and being at home until we can get his needs assessment, so really appreciated. Great, Melanie
