Bros for Change Kaikoura youth hub
Help Bros for Change reach the goal to renovate a youth center in Kaikoura.Canterbury
Bros for Change was developed to work holistically with youth that may have fallen through the cracks or even been labelled.
We run a 6-week intensive program to try and give them a new outlook on life and goals. Within this program we run:
- Mau rakau
- Physical training
- Community projects
- Life skills
- Goal setting
- Māori performing arts
- Bush skills
- Problem solving
- Socialization skills
- Confidence building and many other skills needed to cope with life in general
One of the key components is the follow up support after the program.
Briefly " We can plant a seed, but if we don't water it, it will just be a seed".
We want to build a youth hub in Kaikoura so the rangatahi has somewhere to go long after the program finishes. Somewhere to check in with us, somewhere to hang out, somewhere to continue the journey of growth and be around positive role models. All funds will go towards renovating the space with and for the youth.
We know this is an important part to play in the community and we need everyone's help. This could be the way that you always wanted to contribute but didn't know how.
If 60,000 people donated 30 seconds and $1, this dream and vision and light of hope for the rangatahi of Kaikoura will become a great resource.

Bros for Change is to give young people who have been labelled, a second chance to create real change through real talk with real people. Bros for Change is here to create self-esteem, self-awareness, self-respect and self-management and role models for the next generations from young people in intermediate school right through to more serious delinquent youth offenders. We are not about ticking boxes for funding or just babysitting your children we are here to help make real change.
As a catalyst for positive change ensuring everyone reaches their full potential, regardless of their background, Bros for Change uses a strong sense of culture and identity to form the basis of its programme. By using the protocols of Te Ao Maori the programme helps to break down barriers and build strong relationships through encouraging respect for both the participants and the facilitators.
By incrementally increasing goals from day-to-day objectives through to long term goals we ensure that goal setting is realistic and achievable so that we do not set our young people up to fail. This encourages the individual to learn self-worth and confidence as they progress to more demanding goals. Using this approach we create a clear individual pathway to the major functional goals such as a drivers license, apprenticeship training or becoming a member of a sports team.
Within this framework we run Mau rakau, physical training sessions, cooking sessions, camps and wananga along with whanau inclusive activities.
Use of funds
All money will be used directly on the building renovations. If by chance there is any left over, it will be only used on the fit out of the building.
